Antonio Pierce Tells Us Just How Bad the Raiders Are

by Benny on October 14, 2009

Does it seems like this season has more horrible teams than normal? Titans, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Rams all winless. The Raiders, Browns, and Bills have one win each (Raiders beat the winless Chiefs). Washington has two losses to previously winless teams, Panthers and Lions. The Browns beat the Bills by completing only 2 passes last weekend. Does that make the Browns look horrible or the Bills more?

You get the idea. It’s tough to say which is the worst team in the league because there are so many. Antonio Pierce of the New York Giants doesn’t like to knock teams BUT had this to say about the Oakland Raiders this past Sunday.

“But right now, they’re struggling.  We’re playing that game the other day and, honestly, it felt like a scrimmage, like a practice.  It felt like we were going against our offense [in a controlled setting] as far as the tempo.

“There was no vibe of trying or effort from the Raiders at all from a defensive standpoint against their offense.  We’re getting three-and-outs.  You don’t hear nobody [saying], ‘Hey, let’s go!’ trying to pick the guys up, rallying them, getting guys fired up.  There was nothing.  It was quiet.  A guy gets sacked or somebody gets beat, they just get up.  It’s not like there’s yelling or no kind of [emotion] about the way they were playing.

“It was shocking to be out there in that game and get that kind of feeling.”

That sums up the Raiders. We read the game day summaries and see the stats but the Raiders sound so much worse when described by Pierce. It’s a very dysfunctional franchise. I don’t see any player wanting or respecting a coach who beat the shit out of another coach. He’s more messed up than half the players.

Then there’s the face of the franchise, JaMarcus Russell, who Al Davis compared to John Elway when he drafted him. I could write a thousand words about how bad he is and give you a bunch of stats to back it up, but I don’t think I need to prove my point. We all know how fat and horrific he is.

If the quarterback, the leader of the offense, doesn’t seem to work hard or care, it’s going to spread like the flu to his teammates.

It’s a messed up team and no matter how bad they are, they’re still picking up paychecks that we would only dream of seeing. Somehow life doesn’t seem fair.
